TE 803- Professional Roles of Teaching, Practice II
Spring 2012
Instructor: Don McClure
This course was also taken during my first semester of the internship year at Michigan State University. TE 803 was designed to review and reflect secondary education subject matters in a vast group of secondary educators. The course helped students share experiences during the student teaching year with other secondary matters and developed strength of cross curricular materials. TE 803 showcased team-led professional work in groups of common subject matters, (specialist teachers, music, the arts, physical education) and how strong community plays a factor in ones own school buildings.

Spring 2012
Instructor: George Harnick
This course was the last taken in the spring of the internship year at Michigan State University. TE 804 addressed issues of educational inquiry at the elementary level. Being a Physical Education teacher, certification is K-12th. During the transfer to new schools (secondary to elementary) and new mentors, this course helped build best school based teaching practices. Motivation, management, and discipline areas as well as subject specific teaching strategies were reviewed. Scaffolding from previous TE/KIN coursework was a vast portion of the curriculum as well as self reflection and exploration of one's own teaching practices.

KIN 856- Physical Bases of Coaching Athletes
Summer 2012
Instructor: George Harnick
This was my first chosen elective class for the MAED program. This course helped coaches/teachers gather information needed to establish fine athletic performance by studying anatomic function, technological tools that can help performance, as well as proper nutritional preparation and recovery after an event. The sport sciences were reviewed and shown how most are inter-related subgroups. The areas studied included bio-mechanics of movement, musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, principles of training and program design, nutrition and injury prevention. I was able to walk away with a variety of coaching tools, resources, and information needed to coach top performing, elite athletes.

TE 846- Accommodating Differences in Literary Learners
Summer 2012
Instructor: Erin Jurand
This course was designed to help educators design and reflect current literacy instruction and assessment practices. The areas that we studied included cultural and linguistic differences among students as well as individual motivation variances, neuropsychological differences, instructional strategies to accommodate learning differences, and components of effective literacy instruction. I specifically worked on lessons to accommodate a student with autism who had great receptive language but lacked expressive skills. I modified curriculum to use picture stories and used technology based assessments (i-Pad touch screen assessments) as a source of internal motivation. I learned many sources of adaptions for reading and writing instruction.

ED 800- Concepts of Educational Inquiry
Fall 2012
Instructor: Steven Weiland
ED 800 was designed to think and reflect on the essential questions of the educational system. These included philosophy and history of education, classroom based or teacher research, biography and history, theories of the mind and curriculum, and ethnographic participant observation and biography. This course helped me understand the different forms of inquiry and their purposes, methods, uses and meanings. My revelation experience throughout this course was how ever changing technology positively but also negatively affects inquiry based learning.

Spring 2013
Instructor: Laurel Disney
This course was designed to help students reflect on issues in secondary literacy instruction, secondary literacy development and assessment, and best practices in adolescent literacy instruction. We learned many classroom strategies for interactive learning and how to best develop readers in various academic disciplines. We also reviewed assessment for reading instruction and how to best engage readers and writers with inquiry. My take away from this course included a lesson on engaging students with reading and writing through brain gym activities and the study of anatomical functions.

TE 831- Teaching School Subject Matter with Technology
Summer 2013
Instructor: Dr. Jeff Bale
This course was designed to help students understand the importance of teaching with technology. The course helped me to share and design quality teaching practices as well as gain a vast array of resources. The course helped teachers collaborate across K-12 grade levels, schools, and subject matters, and helped give us an experience with Wikispaces, a site where all of our coursework is now stored, documented, and accumulated. We also had the opportunity to play with Web 2.0 technologies and all they have to offer and think about and practice integrating these tools into lessons and activities across K-12 subjects.

TE 849- Methods and Materials for Teaching Children's & Adolescent Literature
Summer 2013
Instructor: Kristin McIlhagga
TE 849 helped me become familiar with a wide range of children's and adolescent books and helped me develop critical genre review. We developed the various means of responding to texts including the personal, textual, critical, and pedagogical reviews. We also recognized the means of how changing text, reader, or context can effect the whole reading experience. The most effective ways and practices to involve children in literature were reviewed and studied.
